March 2009
Greetings and
Salutations,
Another year, another
winter of traveling for us. Sabine and I took of from here in
France, in November 2008, took the train to Paris, and from there,
flew to Helsinki. From Helsinki we flew direct to Bangkok Thailand.
The plan was to apply for Visas in Thailand, and then head off
immediately to Indonesia and the Philippines. After obtaining
all the necessary Visas, we were duly informed that the Airport
in Bangkok was taken over by protesters, and there were No flights
available, until the political turmoil was solved. Stuck in Bangkok
we took the bus to Kho Chang Island, and went to the beach and
relaxed until the “crises” was over.
A week later we flew
to Java, in Indonesia, and from there to Sulawesi. From Sulawesi,
we took, the boat to Flores, then on to Bali. We spent Christmas
and New Year in Bali and then returned to Java. From Java we took
the boat to Borneo and on to Kalimantan, after trekking in the
forests and boating the rivers there, we went on to the Philippines.
From the Philippines we flew to Bangkok and took a bus to Lao.
In Lao we spent time on the 4000 Islands of the Mekong Delta in
the south of Lao. From Lao it was back to Bangkok, and then home
to nice blue skies and sun in France.
We will open the shop
next week, and then it is back to work, surf, and rock and roll.
Once again our travels have opened our eyes to see “the
other side” how other people live, their convictions, thoughts,
religions way of life, and exotic cuisine. It is always a great
university for us, learning and understanding, growing in knowledge.
Don't forget Desert
Point Surf Shop is probably one of the best surf shops in the
world, and this year we have EXtended the BOARD ROOM. We will
try to display more than 100 SURF BOARDS, so do come in for a
visit, and have a free cup of coffee or tea.
Good surf,
pray for waves, stay cool, and see you soon.
